Reminder: The Version 5010 Compliance Deadline is January 1, 2012
All providers, hospitals and payers must convert from Version 4010 standards for electronic health transactions to Version 5010 for electronic claims by January 1, 2012 in order to get medical claims paid. This is one of the necessary steps to prepare for the implementation of ICD-10 on October 1, 2013.
CMS has developed four Implementation Handbooks to assist providers with the transition, including customizable templates that outline action steps associated with completion dates to match the ICD-10 implementation timeline. These handbooks and the corresponding templates are free and available for download in both Excel and PDF files.
- ICD-10 Implementation Guide for Small and Medium Practices
- ICD-10 Implementation Guide for Large Practices
- ICD-10 Implementation Guide for Small Hospitals
- ICD-10 Implementation Guide for Payers
According to CMS, the ICD-10 Implementation Handbooks outline suggested steps and processes to take for a smooth transition to ICD-10.
